74 Things

Me and the girls

1. I am Canadian.

2. I was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1979.

3. I moved to Queensland, Australia in September, 2001.

4. The reason I moved was my (now) husband who I met on the Internet.

5. We got hitched in July, 2002.

6. We have since moved to Victoria, Australia in September, 2003.

7. We have two daughters.

8. I have been scuba diving on The Great Barrier Reef.

9. I do not like scuba diving.

10. I have a cat named Abby.

11. We got her two months after I moved to Australia.

12. We almost had to give her away after a week

13. because the apartment we lived in didn’t allow pets.

14. I knew that.

15. I cried and they let us keep her.

16. That’s not the first time I cried to get a cat.

17. I used to have my tongue pierced.

18. It honestly did not hurt.

19. I am pro choice.

20. I believe gay people should have the right to marry.

21. Being a mother has given me more confidence in myself then anything else in my life ever has.

22. Being a mother has caused me to feel guilt like I never imagined possible.

23. I prefer plastic cups to glass ones.

24. I visited Aalesund, Norway when I was 19.

25. This is where my grandmother was born.

26. I am a t.v. junkie.

27. My biggest fear is that my girls will move far away like I did.

28. It would be easy for them because they have Canadian and Australian citizenship. (And the ability to get it for Great Britain.)

29. I love to make budgets.

30. I can’t watch horror movies.

31. I prefer my potato chips to be of the ruffled/wavy/what-have-you kind and I eat them one wave at a time.

32. I have always wanted to help an injured bird. *Got my chance!*

33. I still have nightmares that scare me enough to keep me up at night.

34. I am short (4′ 10 3/4″).

35. Yes, that 3/4 of an inch is important.

36. Somehow my oldest daughter is in the 95 percentile in height for her age and her sister seems to be going in the same direction.

37. I love Thai food.

38. I went to university for a year and hated it resulting in really sucky grades.

39. A lot of the sucky grades could have been due to spending very little time in class. Maybe is all I’m sayin’.

40. Letters and numbers have colour when I look at them. Like the letter E is blue.

41. I love photography.

42. I used to know a few things, but have since forgotten.

43. I plan to re-learn it all once I get a camera I like again. *Got the camera in September 2006 relearning has commenced*

44. If we could afford the move/set-up my family and I would probably move to Nova Scotia.

45. The way it is right now – that ain’t never gonna happen. (It’s happening!)

46. My favourite part of flying is the take off. It’s exciting and (somewhat) scary all mixed together.

47. Outside of food I have no addictions, but given how quickly I get hooked on caffeine I know it would be a bad idea for me to try something like heroin.

48. Even if the caffeine thing wasn’t true I still wouldn’t try heroin. Just so you know.

49. My alcoholic drink of choice is beer.

50. Pure Blonde is my favourite. Mmmm.

51. I want to say water is my preferred non-alcoholic drink, but it’s really Pepsi Max (the whole caffeine thing).

52. I’m drinking a can as I write this.

53. Water is definitely second, though.

54. I don’t smoke.

55. I do not enjoy packing or doing dishes.

56. What I have always wanted to be is a mother.

57. Now that I have accomplished that I’m ready to set new goals for myself.

58. I have been blogging since March 2, 2005.

59. You know how some people say they wish they had been born in the 60’s or the 80’s or whatever? I’m pretty happy to have been born when I was and wouldn’t want to live in any other time but now.

60. I wouldn’t change a single thing in my life, not even the most horrible parts (so far, at least).

61. I’m a pretty firm believer of everything happens for a reason, but I don’t go so deep as to apply that to “what happens when we die”.

62. I’m not religious.

63. I once lost my voice after talking on the phone for 7 straight hours…to the same person.

64. I have Australian citizenship.

65. I hate summer!

66. When I was pregnant with my second daughter we once went through 24 litres of milk in our house in one week. A large portion of that was my doing.

67. I really enjoy staying up late, but I’m not one of those people who can survive on four or five hours of sleep regularly. This can make things difficult.

68. I once said, on video, that “I am a hermaphrodite”. I was 17, at a party, quite drunk, didn’t actually know what the word meant and surrounded by boys encouraging me to say it – including one I had a crush on (yes he knew, and yes he was being mean). I’m sure that video still exists and I’m sure I don’t want to see it, but thought I’d use this forum to state, for the record, that I am not, in fact, a hermaphrodite. Thankyouverymuch.

69. I did have a great time in grade twelve and at that party despite what number 68 might make you believe.

70. Both my girls were born via c-section. The first was an emergency, the second scheduled.

71. I am from a family of four, with one brother who is two and a half years younger than me.

Me - '83
Me and Joseph in 1983.

72. I am envious of people who can remember things as far back as one, two even four years old. The few things that my memory has held onto are all jumbled and mixed up. I seem to forget more all the time, too. For instance at one point I could remember the names of all my elementary teachers, but now I can’t remember who I had for grade one and I think I’m mixing up grades two and three. There is also a scar on my right hand that I had a small story about to tell people how it happened. Now? Nothing. I mean, when did those memories leave? I hope it all comes back some day.

73. I don’t drink coffee, but I do enjoy black tea with two sugars (I can drink it with one, but two is tastier).

74. I can’t watch people throwing up on tv and in movies. Blood and guts I can handle, but puke? Well, it makes me want to puke.
